遇水发生激烈反应生成氢和异丁烷。四氢呋喃不适宜作Dibal溶剂，因为两者反应生成配位化合物。Dibal是一种新型金属有机化合物，他可使酮、羧酸、酯选择性还原成相应的醛或者醇。

合成方法
以三丁基铝为原料，在减压下及120～180℃下进行热分解可制得。在此反应中的产率可达95%以上，其余为三异丁基铝，可回收利用。
温度不可过高，否则将全部或部分分解为金属铝
用途
二异丁基氢化铝是有机合成中有用的还原剂。使用它的一些还原方法包括将酯转化为醛，以及将无环酯还原乙酰化为α-乙酰氧基醚。它被用于连续减少流量，以合成甲磺酸埃里布林（一种抗癌药）的偶联反应合成。
